Lost in a Maze

When we drove to the Polynesian Cultural Center, we passed right by the Dole Plantation and thought it would be a fun place to check out. So that's where we headed the next day. We learned an awful lot about pineapples, the different varieties, how they're planted, how they grow, how they're harvested.

There is a Pineapple Variety Garden where there are about two dozen varieties of pineapple from all over the world in different stages of growth. Since I've only ever seen what's in the grocery store, I had never thought about there being different varieties of pineapple. Here are some pics of a few of them.

There was a Pineapple Maze that we thought would be fun to go through. You can see a picture of it on the website. In 2001 it was the world's largest maze spanning about two acres with over 3 miles of paths. Hidden in the maze are eight stations that you're supposed to find as you go. The top five recorded times are posted on the ticket window. The top times were between 16 and 20 minutes so we figured it couldn't take more than 45 minutes or so, right? Well, it ended up taking us somewhere around an hour and 20 minutes! We did find all 8 stations, some of them more than once. The biggest challenge was getting out after we'd found the last station. Here we are lost in a pile of pineapples.
